ASME B36.10M and B36.19M are examples of standards used for dimensions of steel and stainless steel pipe, respectively. They are not universal tube-size standards. Verify the product standard before using their tables.

How should metric and inch tube sizes be compared?

Use exact conversion for reference, but do not assume an inch-labelled product is identical to a nearby metric product. A 25 mm OD tube is not the same as a 1 inch OD tube. Even when the difference looks small, seals, ferrules, tooling, clamps, and sockets may not fit.

Tube fittings depend on controlled OD, surface condition, hardness, and wall support. Pipe fittings depend on nominal pipe size, outside-diameter system, end wall, and connection standard.
